About

Course Length: 30 minutes CE Credits Earned: 0.5 Credits The PLISSIT and Ex-PLISSIT Model course is designed for therapists, counsellors, educators, and helping professionals seeking practical, evidence-informed approaches to addressing sexual concerns in clinical practice. In a supportive, reflective, and inclusive learning environment, participants will explore two widely used frameworks that help guide conversations about sexuality with confidence, sensitivity, and appropriate clinical boundaries. This program introduces the four levels of the PLISSIT model: Permission, Limited Information, Specific Suggestions, and Intensive Therapy, while examining how each level can be applied across a range of client presentations and practice settings. Through case studies and practical examples, participants will learn how to identify appropriate interventions, provide tailored support, and recognize when referral to specialized care is warranted. The course also explores the Ex-PLISSIT model, with its enhanced emphasis on ongoing permission-giving, practitioner self-reflection, and the therapeutic impact of creating safe spaces for clients to discuss sexuality. Participants will examine the role of personal values, biases, and professional responsibility in delivering ethical, affirming, and client-centered care. By the end of the program, participants will leave with practical tools, increased confidence in addressing sexual health concerns, and a structured framework for integrating conversations about sexuality into their work while centering compassion, diversity, and client safety.
